290 World Cup tickets allocated for Tanzania have been sold out, the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) announced today.
Last week, FIFA sent an invoice to the TFF to enable local fans, who wish to watch the forthcoming World Cup finals set to kick off from June 11 to July 11 in South Africa, purchase their tickets.
TFF General Secretary Fredrick Mwakalebela told journalists in Dar es Salaam today that soccer fans who successfully applied for the tickets managed to beat the three-day deadline to pay for the tickets."The total cost of all tickets stood at 62,710 US dollars (about 80m/-).
The cash has already been sent to FIFA and the world soccer governing body will soon dispatch the tickets to be distributed to the successful applicants.
A total of 290 tickets were allocated for Tanzania as it was the case for all other non World Cup participating member countries.
Some 250 tickets are for group matches, round of 16, quarterfinal matches, and playoff, while 40 tickets are for opening match, the two semi-final matches and the final match.
Mwakalebela said that the demand for tickets exceeded supply as over 700 people had applied for the tickets with only 290 allocated, leaving many soccer fans unable to get tickets.
Most applications aimed for the semi-finals and final match tickets. Some 143 applied for first semifinal tickets, and 137 had applied for second semifinal, and 126 for final tickets.Mwakalebela said they will continue to persuade FIFA to allocate more tickets for Tanzania fans.
To watch the final match, Tanzania fans have paid maximum charges (900 US dollars) because FIFA brought in the country first class tickets only. Woah! Do you know the quantity of shoes and bags I can get with that?!!!!!!!! I’m not soccerholic but damn!
Fans elsewhere can pay as low as 400 US dollars, which is lowest price for the final. To watch the quarter-finals one has to part with 300, 200, 150 US dollars for the first, second and third class tickets respectively, as for the semis the fee has been set at 600, 400 and 250 US dollars for the first, second and third class tickets respectively, whle 300, 200 and 150 US dollars for the 3rd placed match.
