One Record We could've gone Without.. Dirtiest Cities in the world

Dar Es Salaam enters World's Dirtiest City Records according to MSN...mighty sad...Dar is extremely urban challenged I must admit, but damn, we could've gone without  this*sighs* Though I highly doubt Temeke is paved with Poo...but really?
Honestly, this article was just crappy, I'll excuse MSN's slow news day...

Travellers pass through the city on the way to Mount Kilimanjaro, Tanzania's superb safaris and Zanzibar's white beaches but, in a country where less than half of the population has access to decent sanitation, capital city Dar es Salaam is struggling under the pressure of rapid urbanisation.

WaterAid has described the Temeke District of Dar as having streets "paved with poo". Jane Scobie of the charity has been witness to the problem. "Dar has grown without effective town planning, and approximately 70% of the population lives in unplanned settlements," she confirms. Despite this, Kariokoo Market is a great place to banter with the locals, while peaceful Coco Beach offers a perfect sunset dining experience.

                                           Addis Ababa

Ethiopia is an emerging tourist destination, tipped by many as one of the top countries to visit this year. Sitting at the foot of Mount Entoto, Addis Ababa is host to the biggest open market in Africa, and a wealth of brilliant cuisine.

But, along with the good comes the bad - it also has one of the world's worst sanitation problems, with less than 15% of the population enjoying decent toilets and sewers. "Addis Ababa is an amazingly vibrant and laid-back city with one of the coolest music scenes in Africa, but," says Ann Noon of WaterAid, who recently visited the city for the charity, "Ethiopia is one of the world's most under-served countries when it comes to having a safe water supply and latrines. Open defecation is all too common."

                                                 Antananarivo 

The African island of Madagascar is renowned for its flora and fauna, much of which is unique to the country. It may come as a surprise, therefore, that its capital is heavily polluted, having been named the third dirtiest city in the Mercer Health and Sanitation Index. Rapid population growth has been a millstone.

"The city basically stinks," opines travel blogger Michael Rayner. "Pollution and smoke predominate, but faeces, urine and rotten vegetables and fruit come a close second. Between the pollution and altitude, I found it really hard to breathe the first few days."

Lisbon isn't dirty per se, but it is definitely derelict. Lisbon has so many empty buildings it has enlisted graffiti artists to brighten them up with giant murals.
