Birtish Airways Picks Marrakech as Top Travel Tip for 2011

Its known that British Airways' top ten travel tips for 2011 is dominated by US, Caribbean and Indian Ocean destinations, But this year Marrakech in North Africa was picked as top destination! Bravo Morocco!
Morocco recently unveiled a tourism development plan for the next ten years to more than double its tourism receipts to 150 billion Moroccan Dirhams per year and turn tourism into its second largest sector after farming...Can You say Ka-Ching!

According to Morocco's government it had 9.3 million tourist arrivals in 2010, with tourism receipts expected to be around 60 billion dirhams, double their 2001 level. Endorsement of Marrakech as a holiday destination could give the tourism industry a further boost.

"The response we've had to the launch of routes like the Maldives, Las Vegas and Marrakech has been incredible. We've seen destinations in the Caribbean and Indian Ocean becoming even more popular with leisure travellers looking for sun and relaxation," said Willie Walsh, CEO of British Airways.
Mauritius is also included in the British Airways' top ten. The Mauritius Central Statistic Office (CSO) said last month that it expected the number of tourists visiting the island to rise 3.3 percent in 2011 as the economy emerges from the global crisis better than expected.
