The Askari Monument....But what does it stand for?

The Askari Monument stands on the location of statue to Major Herman Von Wissmann, a German explorer and soldier, who became Governor of German East Africa in 1895. The first statue of Von Wissmann was erected in 1911 to celebrate the German victory in 1888, and then demolished in 1916 when the British occupied Dar es Salaam.
The current statue, Askari Monument, is cast in bronze and depicts an askari (soldier) in a World War I uniform, the bayonet of his rifle pointing towards the nearby harbor. The monument commemorates the African troops who fought and died during the 1914-18 conflict. Rudyard Kipling, the famous British writer and poet wrote the inscription that appears in English and Swahili.

To think..All through my childhood I was made to believe that guy was a traffic police who would shoot if i didnt look left and right before i crossed the road....sighs...

Studying Africa in the 1st grade is an intentional effort to undo the negative stereotypes associated with the homeland of our students' ancestors. In tandem with their homerooom instruction where students are reading, writing and examining African climates, textiles, and cultures, the 1st grade students' dance class introduced them to West African music and movement. Making a dance music video to teach what they learned was a strategy to make their education relevant and memorable, not just for themselves, but for our entire community.

Whenever i hear people talk bad about Stella representing Norway in Eurovision, I never really get it, I mean arent  the Norwegian televoters  the ones who selected Stella Mwangi to represent them at the Eurovision Song Contest?

MTV reports: Winehouse sold more albums in the past reporting week (which ended on Sunday) than she did in the first six months of this year, moving 50,000 copies versus 44,000 year-to-date as of July 17. That sales push has sent her second album, 2006′s breakthrough Back to Black, into the #9 position on the Billboard 200 albums chart this week, with 37,000 copies sold. In the previous week, the album had sold just 1,000 copies. In a testament to the power of the Internet, of those Blacksales, 36,000 were digital.

Asakeoge Couture-Africa Fashion Week New York

I loved this collection especially because of the shoulder details on the dresses..feathers to puffed. And I especially love the round collar dresses...This collection didnt base on one color or two...it went in from purple to  red and black and eccentric prints. I think the best from of art on fashion is the animals and insects on the dresses, The last four dresses had my eye like the butterfly on the black Dress and the peacock... The Camel...
